In June we took a summer vacation north of two borders. We flew from Belize up to Toronto, Canada (thus the bacon) for a weekend of fun, friends, music and laughter and then road-tripped with Lisa’s parents down to Indiana (thus the corn) for some family fun.
The flight from Belize City to Houston was a blast – our friend Brent (who was also living in San Pedro) sat right next to us – what are the chances?
But – first stop – Houston immigration and Ronnie’s photo bomb.
Our summer vacation started in Canada!
We flew into Toronto and our friends, Mark and Kathy, graciously picked us up in a stretch limo for the ride up to their home in Millbrook, Ontario. Mark and Kathy host an unforgettable weekend party at their home that’s nonstop fun – live music with our TropRock musician friends Mark Mulligan, Sunny Jim White and Kelly McGuire – swimming, eating, dancing, drinking and of course laughing!
We stopped at Kathy’s restaurant for lunch and were told we had to try the “poutine”…what’s that you ask? (we asked too). It’s a favorite Canadian dish of French fries covered in gravy and cheese curds.
The poutine was actually delicious (despite it’s appearance).
While driving around Peterborough we spotted a car with Marilyn Monroe painted on the trunk…..
One of the fun parts to the weekend is that they have a bunch of RV’s parked in their yard that we sleep in…..Canadian camping at it’s finest.
This camper was “modified” so Mark Mulligan felt right at home in Mexico…..who would have thought decorating a camper could be so much fun!?!
This event is so much fun that Lisa’s parents even drive up from Indiana!
Here’s mom and Kathy!
And Lisa and her dad dancing to Kelly McGuire’s song “Daddy’s and Daughters”…
Lisa and Mark dancing to “Turn Around and Run”…
Lisa and her mom taking the floor….one of them had a dancing mishap…..but we won’t ever tell you who!
And of course it’s not a party until we show off our fine dancing skills too!
It’s surprising Ronnie could still lift Lisa after all the poutine she was eating!
After the weekend was over it was time to hop in the car and take the 10 hour ride down to Indiana to spend time with the family – which of course involves more fun, eating, drinking and laughing!
We spotted this Slayer fan driving around Illinois…
And also spotted the worlds worst truck….if we had an award to give him we definitely would have! Not only was this truck rusted all to pieces, but it had a back window “constructed” of plastic and the smell? Ugh…..
One day we took a road trip to Sandusky, Ohio (no, not to visit the town that the movie “Tommy Boy” was filmed in)…but to check out a boat that was for sale….and of course to meet up with our dear friend Michelle for lunch at the “Original Margaritaville”.
Did anyone know that the Original Margaritaville was located in Sandusky, Ohio?
Lots of fun boating on Shafer Lake with the family….
After several days in the Midwest it was time for the Wal-Mart run….we had a bunch of stuff we needed to stock up on down here in Belize…..
Wal-Mart is always fun because you always find such great treasures……
Such as a Hairband……we are guessing this is the required uniform that needs to be worn at any Hairband concert? Or maybe they are selling a Hairband in a bag? If so, this particular Hairband is machine washable!
We also discovered this “Magic Bait”….that comes in Chicken Liver and includes the chicken blood!
And if Chicken Liver isn’t your thing, they also offered “Magic Bait” in Crawfish too!
But unfortunately it is still covered in chicken blood and is NOT for human consumption…..
Put your forks away people!
However if you are still hungry after not being able to eat the “Magic Bait” you can always stop by the BBQ place where –
“You don’t need Teef to eat his Beef”.
One of the best slogans ever……
It rhymes, and it gets it’s point across, right?
We had such a fun and exhausting summer vacation!
And just in case you are wondering – Yes, we did eat Canadian Bacon AND Corn while we were on this trip!
