We have lived on Ambergris Caye for over 9 months and still hadn’t been to see a movie…why? Who knows…..guess we never really thought about going to the movies…..but when we saw Mad Max was playing? How could we say no to Mad Max?
And so our very first adventure to the Paradise Theater for a movie begins…….
At 6:30 we hopped in our golf cart and headed to the Paradise Theater for the 7:00 showing of Mad Max.
A gorgeous sunset was waiting for us as we pulled into the parking lot….
How do we know what’s playing? You can either find it on this sign just north of the bridge or go to the Paradise Theater Facebook page…..
Outside of the Paradise Theater…
That’s the security guard pulling up to work on his bike.
Tickets were only $10 BZE per person….way cheaper than movies back up in the states!
There was even a concession stand with fresh popcorn, hotdogs, candy and drinks. The popcorn machine just broke so it was microwave popcorn to the rescue! (which was delicious!)
Microwave popcorn to the rescue!
We bought 2 popcorns and 2 waters for $10 BZE….again, way cheaper than we used to pay in the states.
Here’s the concession stand….
And if we wanted something stronger than water….there is also a bar……a very nice mahogany bar.
If you get there early there is a really nice lounge area to hang out in before the show….love the Michael Jackson poster!
There are 2 theaters in the building…both with hand carved wood doors….so cool to see this in a movie theater…
Wow – we couldn’t believe how nice this movie theater was!
And then we walked into the actual theater…..it was giant! With red velvet curtains and tons of seating….it was gorgeous inside – the way a movie theater should look.
Ronnie with his popcorn eagerly awaiting Mad Max to begin!
It was just us and 2 other couples at this show…but it was the second week Mad Max was there so everyone else probably already saw it…..
One interesting tidbit about the movies here – there are no previews….so get there on time!
When we walked out after the movie there were at least 20 people waiting for the 9:00 showing of Poltergeist to begin….a great mix of friends and neighbors just hanging together waiting for the show.
As we were leaving we saw more movie goers on their way to the theater….some in golf carts, some walking and the cutest couple going on a date….on a bicycle. The boy was “driving” the bike and the girl was riding on the handle bars…all dressed up for their date. So cute.
We are totally hooked on movies at the Paradise Theater! What a fun night…..highly recommend stopping in for popcorn and a movie when you are in town….it’s a nice change of pace from the nighttime bar scene.
Not sure if this is what Eddie Money wrote his song about in 1977…but we are going to go with it.
Anyone notice anything interesting about the movie tickets???
Oh yeah, and they said if we wanted to bring Dooley Bear to the movies with us we could!
Life in Belize just keeps getting better!
