On super special occasions, we get all dressed up and go out to a fancy dinner.
All dressed up = putting on shoes
Since we just released book number four in our Dooley Bear Adventure’s book series, we definitely were ready to celebrate with a fancy dinner.
But where? We have so many great restaurants here in San Pedro that we usually have a hard time deciding where to go….but not this time. This time the choice was easy. We have a brand new restaurant here at Grand Caribe: EVOO Euro Bistro and we have been dying to try it.
When Lisa called to make the reservation they asked if we wanted a 6:00 or an 8:00 seating……we still feel way too young to go out to dinner at 6:00 (no offense Scott Scriver lol) so we chose 8:00. (but we have to admit, at 7:30 we were wishing we took the 6:00!!!)
Since EVOO is located at our resort, the only transportation needed was our feet.
EVOO is located in the same building as Rain Restaurant and Beach Basket….it’s on the 3rd floor. Since we were not up for workout we took the elevator.
When we walked in we couldn’t believe how beautiful it was! Victoria and Hugo Meyer have definitely outdone themselves with this place. It’s absolutely beautiful.
They have kept the lighting to a minimum so it’s super cozy. And they have these great “private” tables for two where they close the curtains behind you so you aren’t distracted by other people or conversations going on around you. What a great idea!
Now that we were seated, time to order a drink……EVOO is the only Gin House on the island and offers this great Gin and Tonic menu.
It was so difficult to pick one! Ronnie went with the Magellan and it had actual cloves in the drink and was probably the most delicious and interesting drink we have ever tasted. Lisa got the Botanist and it was equally delicious. If you’re a fan of gin and tonics you have to at least stop in for a drink!
While we were waiting for our drinks, the waiter brought us each a small bowl of gazpacho…on the house.
The menu had so many choices it was so difficult to pick just one appetizer. They have cheese platters and meat platters and handmade mozzarella…..we ordered the flatbread – it was topped with artichokes, spinach, tomatoes, goat cheese, walnuts, honey, prosciutto and olive oil.
And yes, it was as incredibly delicious as it sounds and looks. So fresh and so many flavors in just the right proportions. Wow!
Next up, time to order a bottle of wine. EVOO’s wine list included a lot of unique varieties. We definitely drink our share of Chilean and Argentinean wines here in Belize so we were excited to treat ourselves to a bottle of Grenache from France.
So delicious! (and they even used a decanter!)
Ok – on to dinner….again there were so many choices….salmon, beef wellington, pastas made in-house, chicken picatta…you can check out their menu here. Ronnie chose the Spaghetti & Polpettes (with mozzarella stuffed beef and pork meatballs!) and Lisa picked the Butternut Squash and Lobster Ravioli.
Here is Ronnie’s meal:
Both of our meals were incredible….so many fresh flavors! And Hugo makes THE BEST pasta we have ever had!
Since we were celebrating we couldn’t pass up dessert.
Here’s what we picked:
That’s right. EVOO has chocolate fondue on their menu! We haven’t had fondue since we moved to Belize!
As you can guess, the fondue was something I think we will be craving again soon.
And to top off dessert, the waiter brought us each a complimentary shot of Baileys. A perfect way to cap off a perfect dinner!
We know what you’re thinking, “Is it expensive?”
Yes, it’s definitely a place we can’t dine at every week, but we felt that we got a great value based on the quality of the food and the overall experience was definitely worth every penny.
Great….now we are craving some chocolate fondue…….that’s the only negative to EVOO: It is way too convenient for us!!!
